My name is Marlene Emslie, and I create and produce all the articles in the Sheer Nostalgia Range. I have been making Porcelain Dolls since 1989, together with a number of other crafts.
Sheer Nostalgia is based in a section of our 8 bedroomed Guest House - The Oakhampton, (www.oakhampton.co.za) which is also quite Victorian, and provides just the right ambiance for creativity.
In 1999 Jon (my husband) and I went to Australia on holiday, where I saw the Tassel Dolls for the first time. I was smitten........! While we traveled across 3 states in Australia, I gleaned all the information I could on these elegant ladies, while sharing craft information I had with the Australian Crafters. That is what any Craft is about after all .........sharing.
At the time, no-one in S.A. seemed to know anything about Tassel Dolls, and it took me another 6 frustrating months to make my first doll.

I did not really like the "glazed" finish on the overseas dolls, so I set about painting my porcleain dolls with China Paint instead. With a little imagination, a few scraps of fabric, lace ribbon and beads, you can create unique gifts, be part of the revival of a traditional craft, and have the pleasure of saying proudly, "I made it myself".

They make lovely decorations to hang on doors, wardrobe doors, dressing tables, hall stands, or anywhere else you may want to put them. In Australia I saw them hanging from the rings on blinds in the shop windows............that's what drew my attention to them. We have a large Guest House (12 bedrooms) and I have these ladies all over the place.
The enjoyment you will experience as you complete each project will lead to greater inspiration and satisfaction.

Making these dolls is my hobby and passion, so visit the Gallery page to see the range, which changes all the time. I offer free on-line assistance to make these dolls, and I am prepared to do workshops in your area, should there be enough ladies who are interested. I must warn you though, that once you start, it is very difficult to stop!
